Three Weeks…

So…I’ve been away from my blog for three weeks…

Three weeks yesterday I was being induced…

Three weeks today our little boy was born…

…three weeks…

It feels like a lifetime ago.

He is amazing.

His name is George (after George Harrison) and he likes boobs, cuddles, The Beatles (particularly Mean Mr. Mustard), Simon and Garfunkel, Mardy Bum by The Arctic Monkeys, and Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. He does not like being put down, being in a dirty nappy, having his nappy changed, being naked, and getting dressed.

I am sure it’s been said and said again by mothers and fathers all over the world, but I can’t remember what life was like before him. I spend most of my day (and night) cuddling him and feeding him, and it’s a rare treat to have my arms to myself long enough to type…but…despite the fact that he’s happily snoozing away right now, I’m rushing to finish writing this so I can pick him up and let him spend the rest of his nap on my chest.

He is a beautiful boy.

I never quite got my head around the fact that he was growing inside me, and now I’m struggling to believe that he’s mine (well, ours) and that I’m his mother. I can’t believe that I have a baby, even though he’s right here beside me as I type. I can’t believe that Luke and I have created this perfect addition to our family. I feel so lucky. I feel so blessed.

33 Weeks – Braxton Hicks Abound!…

I’m 33 weeks pregnant and about 7 weeks from meeting our little boy…or, if we’re going to be realistic about this, at least 4 weeks away from meeting him.

…in years to come I’m going to look back at these bump pictures and think “I wish I’d cleaned my mirror”…

FOUR WEEKS UNTIL I’M FULL TERM.

I hope he doesn’t come early, but I am starting to think that he might…

I’ve been getting lots (and I mean LOTS) of Braxton Hicks contractions (I’ve actually been getting them every so often for months but hadn’t realised what they were)…so I’ve started to pay attention to them.

I’d always thought that they were painful, I don’t know why. Thinking back many years to when one of my close friends was pregnant, she told me that she was getting them and that they were known as ‘practice contractions’. I can’t recall her ever saying that they were painful, but I somehow managed to get into my head that they were and that’s stuck with me. As it turns out they’re pretty much painless, although I do sometimes feel the pressure of my uterus on my ribs and a bit of a stitch-like feeling that’s sort of like mild round-ligament pain.

Over the past week or so I have been getting them more and more, so last night I decided that I’d use the contraction tracker on my pregnancy+ app to get an idea of how long they were lasting and the intervals between them so I can tell the midwife on Thursday. I got several an hour (upwards of six per hour on occasion) and they can often last for 5-7 minutes, but can be as short as a minute. Sometimes there’s an hour between them, sometimes just a minute.

This isn’t necessarily the norm…although “normal” is a very shaky term to use. Most women at this point only get a few a day at irregular intervals, and they usually only last for around a minute. Some people say they’re brought on by dehydration, or a full bladder, or by being too active, and that lying down or getting in the bath can ease them.

I find that mine come mostly in the evening (although I do get the odd one or two during the day) and that I’m having one EVERY time I get up for a pee in the middle of the night/early morning. I get them whether I’m walking around, sitting or lying down, and changing what I’m doing (i.e. getting up and walking or sitting/lying down for a bit) does nothing to make them go away.

Sometimes the start of bout of my BH can be heralded by a bit of period pain (it doesn’t last long and goes away after the first contraction) or sometimes by a bit of warm, stretchy pain in my lower back, though I’ve had that same lower back pain a few times over the past fortnight without the contractions starting too.

According to women on the forum threads (some of whom have the same experience as me), midwives can advise about my BH in several ways…

  1. this is not normal…call delivery suite if you’re getting more than four an hour, or if you have back/period pain, or if they last for longer than a minute.
  2. this is normal FOR YOU…don’t worry

Some people are also saying that having Braxton Hicks that last this long and happen this frequently can (maybe) be a portent of an early delivery date. I don’t mind if our Little decides to come early as I’m already bloody massive and will probably be VERY uncomfortable if I make it to 40 weeks, but I could really do without him arriving before week 37…

…I’m just not ready…

…and I really REALLY want to use that birth centre…

I’m not overly concerned about any of it though so I’m not panicking, but I am looking forward to talking to my midwife about it all on Thursday and getting her opinion. It’s all becoming very real…

Back in the Van…

It’s a beautiful day. The birds are singing, the wind is blowing a gentle breeze and the sun is shining. Spring is springing all around.

Oh, and Old Red’s windows are condensating!

The last two winters I have completely neglected to air the old boy out and it’s resulted in de-moulding the cushions, not just once but twice. Today I got home from shopping with the co-pilot, noticed that the van was looking a bit warm and sweaty, and so decided to let him have a bit of a breathe, and get something done at the same time…

So here I am… sat on Red’s sofa bed, table up and laptop out, enjoying the sun in my van. And getting some blog posts written while I’m at it.

please excuse the dusty laptop...

please excuse the dusty laptop…

I know I might not be able to get him out on the road at the moment, what with the lack of tax (and battery for that matter…more on that next time) and the whole not trusting my welded gearstick issue, but at least I can use him as a writing room my days off. It benefits us both as I get to sit at a proper table on a comfy seat, the old boy gets to feel the wind through his cabin, and the view isn’t too bad either…

looking out the side door...

looking out the side door…

I’ve even had a furry visitor pop by to say hello…although he’s not allowed to sit by me because he’s a little fleabag.

Yes, I could get quite used to this. It’s even inspired a new possible blog name…

…one girl who writes in a campervan…

Serial Non-Poster…

Once again I find myself needing to apologise for the lack of content on this site…

Sorry!

And once again, my constant excuse is that life gets in the way…which is a shame considering life makes for pretty juicy blog fodder!

If you’ve read any of my three or four posts from the last, ooh, two years or so, you might have noticed that my ‘co-pilot’ became my hubby. This isn’t just an endearment, it’s actually a thing…

Mr and Mrs <3

Mr and Mrs ❤

Don’t we look pretty?

Not only have we managed to get married since my last significant posting (not including the short burst of posts last summer), but we have also had a wedding anniversary.

Oh, and I’m pregnant!…we’ve been busy…

As I enter my second trimester I’m making a vow to revive this blog – to document our life, rather than letting it get in the way of my writing. You can think of it more as one girl, her husband, their baby…and a camper van! I’m looking forward to the chance to catch up with myself, to post about our adventures and exploits, and to share the miracles of being ‘with child’. That is to say, I’ll be joyously uploading pictures of our holidays, days out, and our wedding, whilst writing horrifying accounts of my acne and flatulence.

Wish me luck…
