This morning I came outside to discover rivulets of frozen water on Red’s frosty face…I think he’s sad to be SORN and covered in snow…
Monthly Archives: January 2013
Fletch hasn’t had a very good time of things recently (more about that another time) and he’s started going to a new vets. We weren’t happy with the old vets (more on THAT another time too!) so we’ve moved him to Companion Care, which is located inside our local branch of Pets At Home. For some people, this might not be ideal, but it’s great for us…Fletch loves going into the pet shop (he gets to meet other dogs and menace the giant bunnies) so he doesn’t get scared or shake uncontrollably, and we can pick up all the extra bits we need at the same time.
It’s also good because while we’re waiting for the vet to see him, he can try on all the clothes!! He’s now the proud owner of a rather smart parka…
I’ve always wanted to buy him a coat but not really seen the point (afterall, he’s wearing a fur coat ALL THE TIME), but now the snow has come down – and while he’s accompanying us on our 6am jaunts to Birmingham – I’m glad that he’s got this to keep him warm and dry.
He looks cute too 🙂
I’m not a big fan of snow.
I mean…I AM…I actually love it. I love it when the world is all black and white, and I love the peace and quiet that it brings. What I don’t love is the way our country seems to come to a stand still.
Yesterday was my day off, but I was still on taxi duty as Luke had to get into work for 6am (poor Luke…poor taxi driver). At that time of the morning the roads were icy, but not too snowy. Unfortunately it wasn’t the same story a few hours later when I set out to pick him up…
After getting stuck in two massive traffic jams, finding my way onto an endless bus route (all the signs/road markings were covered with snow), sliding into a bus and smashing up New Silver’s bumper, I managed to make my way out of Redditch on a fairly quiet country road. I got stuck in ANOTHER traffic jam (people are hideously selfish and were blocking roundabouts whilst resolutely NOT letting people out of junctions) and eventually, two and a half hours later I’d made it halfway to my destination. Luckily, some of the trains were still running, so Lukey-boy had to hop on a train and meet me in Kings Norton.
Today I’m in work (why???) because the roads weren’t bad enough to keep me home, but I’m leaving as soon as it looks like the sky might start falling on our heads. The weather reports say that it’s going to snow again later…and tomorrow…so I’m rather glad that Luke doesn’t have to go to work, and rather hoping that I don’t have to either!
At least Stratford-upon-Avon is pretty today! It makes leaving the warm comfort of home a little less painful…
So…first an admission. I read the Daily Mail. There, I said it…it’s done with. Can we move on now?
No?…but I swear I only read it ironically. And because I’m bored. And I quite like it.
Today I read (in the Daily Fail) about a hotel in Berlin called Huettenpalast where they’ve created a campsite indoors! From the looks of the photo the caravans and cabins all share the same massive room, and the holiday-makers all have to share the same ‘on-site’ men’s and women’s facilities, but what an amazing idea?!
Hello! And happy 2013 to anyone who may stumble across this!
So, it’s back to the writing board for me…
I started this blog with the best of intentions, but life kind of got in the way towards the end of last year. I’m sad that I didn’t get more time (and inspiration) to write interesting blog posts that would have helped build my readership, but honestly? I’d rather be living my life than writing about it, so I’m not going to berate myself too much!
Instead, I’m starting out afresh (again) and I have a few half-written pieces in the pipeline, as well as a few reviews and photo-entries that could keep readers busy for a few weeks or so. I’m not promising a new entry every day (far from it), but I am promising myself that I’ll be more proactive when it comes to my spare time. I’ll do less reading of the Daily Mail (it’s tripe, but it’s delicious tripe) and more writing of my own…and if those derivative hacks can entertain me, then I’m sure I can entertain you!
IN OTHER NEWS…
The picture header for my site has disappeared! It’s been gone a while now but I can’t fathom why. The code all looks fine and the image is still securely on my server, but it doesn’t appear at the top of the page any more. A “friend” helped me make the header and add it to the page, and has since fallen out with me, so perhaps the death of our friendship is the reason for the death of my header? Who knows…either way, apologies for the big blank void!
